I am looking for any information, leads, SOURCE CITES, FTP-able stuff,
etc. (with good citations) regarding research into the efficacy of
acupuncture and/or chinese herbal medicine. If anyone could lead me to
some good (in the western sense–and no, I’m not looking to debate this
topic) research, I would be forever grateful.
Please respond to me via e-mail, gerag…@holonet.net…
Thanx!
How sad! I posted a couple weeks ago in search of ANY research info with
regard to the efficacy of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), whether it
be acupuncture, herbs,…anything, and the only responses I got were from
others hoping to get the same info. Is it true that no one in this
newsgroup knows of any research (ANY!) that I could get my hands on?! Not
anecdotal case histories, mind you, but journal articles and/or books
and/or any other published studies on the subject, or any part of the
broad subject, for better of for worse. Anyone?
Please E-mail to gerag…@holonet.net
Thanx!

Well, MHA ain’t exactly research central. But I just fer-fun checked
MED-LINE using only the key-word ‘acupuncture’ and came up with 1,243
citations in just the past five years. These are indexed journals pre-
sumably of the type you seek…ie, "for better or worse."
If you are looking for *ONLY* "positive" studies, check out ‘Advances in
Acupuncture and Acupuncture Anaesthesia’ published by The People’s
Medical Publishing House & printed in the People’s Republic, 1980. It is
515 pages of abstracts of papers presented at the National Symposium
of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Acupuncture Anesthesia, Beijing, 1979.
It’s a completely maddening reference because it is UNindexed…so your
‘word-search’ must rely on the long table of contents and random page-
turning. Every study I’ve looked at in there "worked"…either more…
or less. I believe this kind of "research" represents a ‘finding’
in itself and has implications for cultural differences vis a vis the
concept of a ‘placebo.’ Very interesting actually.
Anyway, good luck with your research.

These badly translated chinese texts are not the most trustable, highly biased
as I have learned from my chinese TCM-collegues.
