earwax

me and julie used "ear candles" for ear wax removal, and we were
completely de-gunked.. We got so much wax and gunk out of our heads, we
pondered.. Where does it come from.. Do we need it? and are we damaging
ourselves by ridding ourselves of so much of it. Would some informed
source get back to us explaining the nature of earwax.. Should we save it?
please respond by e-mail.

A recent journal article (written in a journal very sympathetic to
alternative medicine) had an article by the editor who bought some ear
candles and tried them. However, he did NOT put them into his ear – he
simply burned them alone to the proper level and stopped to look in them.
He found a bunch of brown gunk at the end of the candle, apparently the
debris left from the burnt candle! Obviously, it is not ear wax, since he
did not put it into his ear, and obviously ear candles appears to be one
    folk remedy that doesn’t work.

I did the same thing, holding my finger over the non-burning end of the
candle.  Funny thing was, when I told a friend what I did, he said that
the ear candle pulled toxins out of my finger.

This led me to postulate that the stuff coming out of the ears was not
ear wax, but probably brain cells.

I did not know that the candles were to remove wax. I thought they
were to change the pressure in the canal to change the pressure on the
drum and behind it. Like the scopes the docs use with the pressure devices
if the drum moves sometimes the goop behind the ear drum dumps out into
    throat.
As an aside one D.O. told me to keep a kid from coughing all night
long, they use to put 2 drops of glycerine in each ear slowing the
    drainage to the throat.             Sharon.

lite with a match. Some wax came out of several 50-60 year olds!!  But I use
peroxide in the ear for 5 minuetes – the bubbles sound  sound greate and you
get satisfaction with the yellow pieces of ear wax that comes out.  Good luck!
