How do you treat Cold Sores?

I know this is kind of an unimportant problem, but I know that
they are a real pain in the ass for me.  I just recently (a couple months
ago) got a scar on my lip from one…How do you treat these things so
they’ll go away quick and leave no scarring?  They really are pretty
disgusting….thanks!

I used to get *cold sores* (read Herpes Simplex 1) at every increase in
stress in my life.  I’ve been taking L-Lysine every day and haven’t had an
outbreak for about five years now.

L-Lysine is the thing!  I take 200mg a day and generally no longer suffer from
cold sores.  I used to get them very often.

If I do get a sore (after neglecting the L-Lysine for a while) resuming it right
away arrests the developement of the sore.  It begins to heal the same day.

Currently acyclovir(Zovirax) is the most effective treatment for cold
sores (herpes simplex virus 1).  Cold sores can be caused by either hsv 1
or 2, but it is commonly referred to as hsv 1.  Zovirax is only available
at this time by perscription unfortunately.  Lysine has been reported to
work very well in reducing occurances and shortening duration once they
    have appeared.

Be aware though that since cold sores are herpes and the virus sheds
asymptomatically.  This can allow for transmission to other sites
unknowingly, and can also be a problem when pursuing oro-genital
    relations.

The virus that causes herpes remains with the infected person for life.
Most people are infected with the virus by age 5 due to many not knowing
how transmittable it is, or what it is.  Hope this helps some.  If you
need any more information e-mail Seachant.  I co-facilitate an online
herpes support group, and would be glad to forward you the info.

Traditional homeopathy can cure herpes simplex. This kind of constitutional

A better use for the ice-cube is to place it in a medium sized glass container,
add a double measure of gin, some tonic water and a slice of lemon – stir
gently and drink at one’s leisure – reduces stress – stress often causes
    cold sores

    Cheers,

Flax seed oil, or any other GLA chain oil, like Evening Primrose, Black
Current Seed or Borage Oil are helpful for the inflammation.

    As is Lysine.

Cold sores inside the mouth respond well to Golden Myrecal by
Nature’s Pharmacy.  No, it’s not my product; it’s made by a
    competitor.

I’m also a cold sore suffer. However, since I know the sores are caused
by the herpes virus, I also know from personal experience that
Pycnogenol helps keep the out break at minimum levels and makes them
less frequent as well as less painful. Prior to taking Pycnogenol
(super anti-oxidant free radical eliminator) I had cold sores at least
once a month especially if I spent a lot of time in the sun, that seemed
to bring on the blisters. Since taking PYCNOGENOL the herpes outbreaks (I
used to get out breaks on both pairs of lips, if ya know what I mean!)
have been much fewer and much less extensive. Before Pyc the blisters
would last from 7 to 10 days from start to finish. Now they come and go
within 4 to 5 days and are never as painful or happen near as often. I
have been taking PYC since August 1994 and it seems to be cumulative as
far as frequency, over time the outbreaks happen less often. Its been
three months now…and who knows…maybe the virus will eventually stop
    reproducing and creating blisters.
Pycnogenol is available from a number of sources, but the best one I’ve
found is a MLM company that sells wholesale and charges no fees but the
cost of product and shipping. They get their PYC from the same French
company called SARPAP, that supplied the patent holder Dr. Masquelier
during his 20 year research and patent trials. Dr. Masqueliers lab still
checks each batch for quality and bio-availability before it is released
for sale to the medical community in France and the world, by French
Law. It sells for $19.00 per bottle of 60 tablets-50mgs each. The price
is basically 157 mgs per dollar, other companies sell it for 64mgs per
dollar. So Life Plus provides much more PYC for your hard earned dollar.

Membership is free, call 1-800-572-8446. You need a sponsor so use Donna
Trus ID # 20121. Charge it on Mastercard, Visa, Discover, Amex or use
    electrnic fund transfer.
Minimum first order is $40.00, after that no minimums apply. Special for
February is buy 3 bottles and get 4th one free that makes the PYC priced
at 210mgs per dollar. Dosage is 1 mg of PYC for every 1 pound of body
weight. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you’ll need 3 tablets a day. It is
FDA approved and totally non toxic.
Extracted from grape seeds and pine bark, and 95% bio-available. It
eliminates free radicals so the body can heal itself faster than the free
radicals are distroying it. This means it helps your immune system and
fights the effects of virus and bacterial infections too. PYC prevents
many diseases and is known to prevent heart attacks, storkes, cancer, and
many other diseases. Since it crosses the blood brain barrier, it also
helps alzheimers and such things as eyesight and diabetic retinopathy. I
have numerous pages of information on the company and PYC. This company
has been manufacturing nutritional supplemenmts since 1936, but the MLM
is very new, only started in Oct 1994. So it’s ground level. They have
many other supplements that include DHEA, Colloidal Silver, Co-Enzyme
Q-10 and others. Literature is available if you email me a request.
Hopes this helps you, it sure helped me!

    Sincerely,

    Linda Trembley Schumacher     email:  T…@bendnet.com

PS. Just in case you didn’t know it…cold sores (herpes) on the mouth
can be transmitted to a sexual partner thru oral sex and it will appear
on the genitals of your partner…no fun..doesn’t do much for the
relationship either! So avoid oral sex or kissing if you’ve got a
blister….that’s how I got my herpes down under!

Apply pure Tea tree essential oil directly on cold sore (with Qtip or
finger tip), and it should go away in a couple days.

Three things that I have found knocks down cold sores
caused by virus, from various medical newsletters.
                    1.  Calcium supplements to strengthen the
walls of cells to stop virus invasion. Taken
                        routinely before an outbreak.
                    2.  L-Lysine (aminno acid) taken at outbreak
                    3.  Pyncognel taken at outbreak on top of
                        normal vit.c, e, etc.levels taken routinely.

    Hi.

The most effective treatment I have found is a Chinese herbal formula called
Watermelon Frost. Not every treatment works with everyone but my friends who
have tried the formula have also found it to be effective, especially when
applied immediately after feeling the first signs of cold sores.

    Hope this helps.

I could have used this information
ten years ago, haven’t had a
cold sore since then, but use
to get them every few months,
    usually triggered by excess sugar
intake.  What seems to work in
terms of prevention is 500 mg
    of L-Lysine per day.

I’ve had cold sores for years, and hated every moment of them, and still do.
There is nothing you can do to get rid of them, but there is a prescription
drug called Zorvorax that works great, instead of having a cold sore for 2+
weeks, it cut mine down to 4 days.  It comes both in pill and topical cream,
and I highly recommend it for anyone with cold sores.  It isn’t an alternative
treatment, but I swear its the only thing I’ve ever tried that actually works.
