: Joe, What particular herbs are you looking for? Did you know the
: Chinese and Japanese people feel the best herbs in the world come from
: the USA? I found that very interesting from an herbalist friend of
: mine that spent some time overseas. Also, I found that many of the
: herbs simply have different names and are available here in the US.
: If possible, provide botanical names. Good Luck
That is patently untrue. Sichuan Province, which produces the bulk of China’s
herbals is vigorously proud of the quality of their herbals–your friend was
simply the recipient of Japanese courtesy. The US simply doesn’t produce many
herbals, of any sort, so there is no comparison to the vast trade in herbals
around the world. And there are very few East-Asian herbals grown
commercially in the US, or to be found in our forests (if you can find a
forest), and none that they cannot grow just as well themselves.
The only herbals respected highly in East-Asia that they do not grow much for
themselves is American ginseng (and Grizzly Bear gallbladder, btw). We have
the best climate for it, as it is more delicate than _Panax ginseng_.
