Too much of a good thing??????

This is a message I feel I have to write. For years I have read many
things about the "bad" stuff for you. I cut out many things from my
diet. I cut out so many I lost too much weight. I became fearfull of
many foods with additives. I have to say after all I have been through
that best advice I could ever give anyone is to EAT WHATEVER YOU WANT
and don’t worry about anything. Better to be relaxed and happy than
uptight and fearfull all the time. I think that good health is good but
when you start scaring people then it should be stopped. Alot of what I
read I now relize is not propperly researched material. I was 150 lbs
and went to 115 lbs. I now am eating all the "bad stuff " again just to
try to gain weight and my health back. Any thoughts?

Eating foods without additives etc should not cause such a massive
weight loss as long as you are getting enough calories/protein etc.
There is no reason why this cannot be done. I am concerned though about
anyone who has lost so much weight, and I note your reference to getting
your health back with concern also. There are some diseases that can
cause severe weight loss along with possibly various other symptoms. I
think you should get a careful medical evaluation from an MD just to make
sure that your diet really was the problem. Meanwhile, get out there and
    have an ice cream cone!

heh, extreme moves are unadvisable.  they will always cause you stress
(physical and mental).  eat comfortably and to your satisfaction, but
keep an equilibrium.  enjoy every bite!

Well, I feel I have to write you this message in reply. . . to tell you
that I agree with you completely.  "Scientific" evidence regarding what
foods are or are not good for us changes  continually.  What’s in today is
out tomorrow.  Or. . . the ultimate cop. . .they need more studies.  I
think all intelligent people will agree that statistics can be made to fit
most any point of view.  As an RN, I have seen babies who were
nutritionally deficient in certain areas and they would seek out foods, or
even inanimate objects to put in their mouths, ostensibly to attain that
nutrient.  I get so tired of hearing that commercial "The average American
eats (some amount of tonage) of sugar in a lifetime".  Well?  So what?  I
mean, we also drink (x tonage) of water in a lifetime.  Many of us consume
enormous quantities of potatoes, rice, etc. . . so what?  Just because you
eat a lot of it doesn’t prove it’s bad for you.  The earth is abundant with
many different kinds of foods providing virtually every nutrient and mineral
a person needs during their life.  Of course, they have to eat it before
they rep any benefit.  I have found several times in my life that when I was
deficient in some nutrient or mineral I would develop a "craving" for
certain foods.  I would eat them and eat them and eat them until the craving
was gone.  Basically, I think common sense is the best rule.
